We live in the era of fast food where we prefer grabbing meals that are prepared in a jiffy. We eat salad mixed with a packaged salad dressing, a commercially prepared jam/pickle roti, or home-made tortillas/nachos with ready-made salsa. Our fast-paced lifestyles have drastically changed our food choices.

With mothers juggling between home and work, preparing 3 proper meals at home poses a huge challenge. Today, food and beverage companies are targeting children to foster brand-building and influence food product purchase behaviour. And with this kind of exposure and crammed schedule, commercially prepared food is a win-win situation for the mother and child.

Nothing is junk when home cooked

Let’s take a couple of scenarios:

Scenario 1 – I want to lose weight but I don’t want to visit a nutritionist because she is going to ask me to avoid eating out which means I won’t be able to enjoy my favorite foods!

Scenario 2 – My nutritionist tells me that when you eat out, prefer to eat clear soups, veg sandwiches, steamed idlis instead of the dosa or medu vada that I love. It’s really sad to look at other people enjoying their food, when you are not. Seriously, looking at the limited options I have, I’d rather eat khichdi at home.
